Carolina Piteira
Artist Portfolio Website
Context
Carolina Piteira is a Portuguese painter with exhibitions across European galleries. Despite her professional recognition, she lacked a digital presence that reflected the quality, personality and atmosphere of her work. The goal was to create a website that could extend her artistic presence beyond physical exhibitions and allow visitors to discover her work online.
Creating a Digital Gallery
I approached the project by treating the website as a digital gallery, translating the experience of viewing artwork in a physical space into an online environment. A white and minimal visual language created space, clarity and hierarchy, allowing the artwork to remain the central element of the experience. Generous spacing and discreet typography were used to reduce visual noise and create a more contemplative browsing experience.
Designing for Artwork Discovery
Designed for galleries, museums and collectors, the information architecture prioritised fast artwork discovery. Collections were organised with visual previews, allowing users to understand each series before exploring further. The structure guided visitors from overview to individual artwork within a maximum of three interactions.
Building a Visual Identity
Colour was introduced intentionally through a controlled use of coral orange. Rather than competing with the artwork, it was used to guide interaction through navigation, selected states and key actions. The choice also created a subtle connection with Carolina's own paintings, where warm and vibrant tones frequently appear.
Outcome
The website created a dedicated digital platform for Carolina's work, allowing collectors, galleries and visitors to discover her portfolio beyond physical exhibitions.
